Arc Angel Welding & Training is a professional welding training provider based at Celtic Business Park in Milford Haven. Offering high-quality, industry-focused training for individuals and businesses, the company delivers practical courses designed to develop real skills and confidence - whether you're a complete beginner, a hobbyist, or an experienced welder looking to upskill.

We caught up with founder Jo to find out more about her journey into the trade, why she set up the business, and what drives her passion for bringing through the next generation of welders.

How did you get into welding and what drew you to the trade?

I finished secondary school and went on to complete a Level 3 Fashion and Textiles course, after which I gained a place at university. A few months into my degree, I realised university wasn't for me.

Welding wasn't really a career choice offered to girls back then but fortunately for me, my dad was a welder and my parents encouraged me to give it a try. From the moment I picked up a welding torch, I fell in love with it.

When did you set up Arc Angel Welding & Training and what made you decide to go down the training route?

We opened Arc Angel in March 2025 after noticing a gap in welder training for individuals looking to upskill, as well as companies across a range of industries needing to develop their workforce. By offering flexible tailored training both at our site and on-site across the UK we are able to provide a more adaptable approach that works for businesses and individuals alike.

As a partner with Code A Weld, we are also able to offer welder qualifications (codings) and testing, helping us provide a more complete service for both individuals and businesses.

What does a typical week look like for you at the training centre?

Every week is different. Some weeks are spent delivering training at our workshop, while others involve travelling across the UK to deliver on-site training for businesses.

Being responsible for the day-to-day running of the business, I manage all aspects of the business, from meeting with customers and preparing quotations through to workshop operations, equipment maintenance, material preparation and ensuring all safety and quality standards are met.

Alongside Arc Angel, I work as a Welding Surveyor for Code A Weld and a committee member of The Welding Institute Wales Branch, helping me stay actively engaged within the welding industry.

Why would you recommend welding as a trade to young people considering their options?

I would recommend welding because it is a highly rewarding trade that can open doors to a wide range of industries and opportunities worldwide.

While many young people are interested in becoming welders, there are also other skilled trades that offer excellent career opportunities. Welding is my passion and I would encourage anyone considering a practical, hands-on career to give it a try.

How important is it to you to bring through the next generation of welders and apprentices?

It is extremely important to me to support the next generation of welders, particularly within an industry currently facing a significant skills shortage. Quality training is essential in developing the underpinning knowledge and practical skills needed to build successful careers within the industry.

When I was learning to weld, I was fortunate to have tutors who provided incredible support and passed down a huge amount of knowledge and expertise. They played a major role in shaping my career and I want to provide that same level of guidance and encouragement to others.

What are your plans for Arc Angel going forward?

As a relatively new business, we are still learning and developing but my aim is to continue expanding our training opportunities while building strong links with both the local community and industry. I want to be able to provide accessible training for anyone looking to develop their skills, whether for career progression, industry requirements or personal interest.

I will continue developing my own skills to ensure our training remains current and keeps pace with future industry developments.

Outside of the business, we understand you're a keen cricket player – tell us a bit about that!

Yes, I play for St Ishmaels Cricket Club. We formed the ladies team around five years ago and have recently been promoted to Division One, which is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.

I tend to open the batting, as I am not in the team for my bowling ability! My husband and children also play for the club, so cricket is a big part of our family life.

What do you love about living and working in Pembrokeshire?

Being close to the coast – I don't think I could ever live too far away from the sea.
