Morgan Smith is a young tradesman who's gone from strength to strength since setting up Morlec Electrical. Based in Pembroke, Morgan has built a solid reputation for quality electrical work across Pembrokeshire – and he's also been recognised for giving back to his community, recently donating his time and equipment to install a new public AED at Pembroke Boathouse alongside Paddle West and Pembroke Town Council.
We sat down with Morgan to find out more about his journey into the trade and his plans for the future.
How did you get into the electrical trade?
Honestly, I didn't really know what I wanted to do at first. My dad was an instrument/electrical technician at the time and pushed me towards the trade, and once I got into it properly I realised it suited me.
When did you set up Morlec Electrical and what made you take the leap into working for yourself?
I was previously working away travelling all across the country, and eventually decided it wasn't the lifestyle for me. I wanted to work on my own terms, build something for myself and have more control over the type of work I was doing.
What does a typical week look like for you?
A typical week is usually a mix of smaller jobbing work 1–2 days a week alongside larger ongoing projects. I also try to keep some time aside for admin, quoting jobs and planning upcoming work.
What's been your favourite or most memorable job so far?
Probably finishing larger projects and finally signing them off. It's always satisfying seeing everything come together and hearing how happy customers are once the work is complete.
What are your plans for the business going forward?
At the moment it's about continuing to build on what I'm already doing, keep growing steadily and maintain a good standard of work. Longer term I'd definitely like to expand the business further and keep pushing it forward.
