A number of Pembrokeshire's finest pool players were chosen to represent their country in the recent European Blackball Championships in Malta.

Carl Sheehan, Scott McQuarrie, Eddy Collins and Rob Walters were chosen to play for the Wales B1 team alongside Gary Murtagh - a Cardigan based player who also frequents Pembrokeshire events.

Owen Shanklin, Secretary of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Pool League, was also chosen to manage the Masters B2 side.

They were enthusiastically supported by friends and family including Carl's wife Joanne, his cousin Shane Williams and his wife, Johnny Folena and Tyron Williams.

The trip saw their team face off against other European nations including England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands and Malta.

Scott McQuarrie also enjoyed success in the European Singles Competition, enjoying a strong run to reach the Last 16.

There were some familiar faces at the event with world-renowned Snooker superstar Tony Drago playing for the Maltese Pool team that the Pembrokeshire lads faced off against.

Captain Carl Sheehan spoke about the fantastic experience he enjoyed:

"It was great to experience playing alongside local lads together for our country in the absolute gorgeous country that is Malta. I was over the moon with how the boys played and battled to represent their country and would like to thank my beautiful wife and my friends and family for travelling to come and support us."
