With both Merlins Bridge and Hakin United's First Team's West Wales Cup games called off due to issues with frozen pitches, all eyes were on this encounter in Division Two.

Merlins Bridge 2nds went into the game in good form after three wins in all competitions including an impressive away victory over Narberth in the Division Two Cup.

A young Hakin United 2nds have been enjoying a season of mixed fortune, sitting towards the top of the table but having recently endured a tough run of fixtures against promotion hopefuls Monkton Swifts 2nds and Herbrandston.

Merlins Bridge club legends combined as Joe Leahy gave his side the lead in the 26th minute after being set up by Matthew D'Ivry. 

Leahy then doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a spectacular 40 yard free-kick - video below.

Leahy once again opened the scoring in the second half, completing his hat-trick with a free-kick from much closer range, firing a low-driven shot which was deflected past the helpless Hakin 2nds keeper - video below.

The Vikings pulled one back with a goal from one of their young stars Scott Paddison who has been enjoying a strong full debut season in senior football.

Leahy added a fourth to his tally in the 67th minute after being setup by Tomos Gwilliam.

The in-form Danny Pearce completed the scoring in the 85th minute with a goal from the bench thanks to an assist from Tom Edmonds.
