The Lower League featured game this week took place at the Athletic ground, where bottom of the table in division 3, Neyland II (59ao) were trounced by 171 runs to the side who started the day one place above them, Laugharne (230-6).

Skipper John Tennick asked his visiting compadre Callum Collins-Davies to make first use of the immaculate wicket and ground, last weeks centurion with 152no wasted no time in bringing his rich vein of form with the bat to the fore, as he demolished the home attack with 98 before being caught and bowled by Rhys Beavis for 98 (16x4) with the score on 164. Beavis finished with 3-46 from his allotted eight overs, which included Liam Morley-Trivett (13; 2x4) and teenager Sam Lynch (6).

Collins-Davies shared an opening partnership of 134 with Ben Thorne (43; 5x4) before he was bowled by teenager Sammie Vaughan-Davies (1-44), opening bowler Charlie French taking 2-36. It is doubtful if a Laugharne player has bettered Callum-Davies prolific eight days where he has plundered 260 runs, since the club’s existence which was established at their AGM in 1889, or perhaps even earlier, as cricket has been played in the village since 1870. Once Callum-Davies had departed, Simon Davies (18; 2x4) and Barry Meredith (27no; 4x4; 1x3) added 25 for the fifth wicket before veteran Shaun Lynch (12no; 3x4) defied his ‘Defibrillator’ nickname to help Meredith add an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 30 to set the ‘all whites’ a daunting target for victory after the mid innings break.

The Cocklemen had an early breakthrough when Sam Lynch struck in the first over with the new cherry, bowling Nathan Sutton for a duck. With his tail up and his blonde locks flowing in the wind from the Town end, the seamer then removed fellow opening batsman Beavis (14; 1x6; 2x4), French (4; 1x4) and Tennick for a duck in a 4-10 return after five overs, the youngster then having the coupe de grace to bowl last man Roberts (2) to claim a final analysis of 5-13 in his sides success. He was supported by first change bowler James Allen as he took 3-5 from his five overs, removing Corey Riley (1) as well as Kieran Allen and Ollie Vaughan-Harries for ducks. Man of the match Collins-Davies took 2-3 from his four overs, bowling top scorer for Neyland Josh Owen for 26 (2x6; 2x4) and Sammie Vaughan Harries (2), the visitors securing the game in the nineteenth over to lift them away from the relegation zone.
