With energy bills continuing to squeeze budgets across Wales, sports clubs in Pembrokeshire have a golden opportunity to slash their running costs whilst making their facilities more sustainable.
The Sport Wales Energy Saving Grant offers funding of up to £25,000 for qualifying improvements – but clubs must act quickly, with the initial expression of interest deadline fast approaching on 25th June.
Local renewable energy specialists Green Warmth are actively supporting Pembrokeshire sports clubs in navigating the application process, drawing on their extensive experience in helping Welsh sports facilities reduce energy costs and carbon footprints.
The Energy Saving Grant is designed to help not-for-profit sports clubs across Wales make meaningful improvements to their clubhouses and changing rooms. Qualifying upgrades include:
The application process operates in two distinct phases.
Stage One requires clubs to submit detailed information about their proposed upgrades and funding requirements by 25th June at 3pm.
Successful applicants then progress to Stage Two, which runs from 16th July until 1st October and requires a professional energy survey to guide the final application.
Green Warmth offers comprehensive support throughout both stages, from initial site assessments through to final installation. Their team understands the specific requirements of sports facilities and can help clubs identify the most cost-effective improvements for their particular circumstances.
The effectiveness of these energy-saving measures is already being demonstrated across Wales. Hook Sports Club recently benefited from a comprehensive solar installation, with their monitoring system showing significant energy generation and battery storage capabilities. Such installations typically provide clubs with decades of reduced energy costs whilst contributing to Wales' renewable energy targets.
To qualify for the grant, sports clubs must be not-for-profit organisations that either own their buildings or hold leases with at least seven years remaining. Crucially, clubs must be able to contribute at least 20% of the total project costs, including the energy survey expenses.
Projects must commence by 31st March 2026 and be completed within 12 months of receiving grant approval. Sport Wales will cover 50% of energy survey costs for unsuccessful Stage Two applications, reducing the financial risk for participating clubs.
With the initial expression of interest deadline just over two weeks away, Pembrokeshire clubs interested in this opportunity should contact Green Warmth immediately for a preliminary assessment. The company's local knowledge and technical expertise can help ensure applications are both competitive and realistic.
The combination of rising energy costs and increasing focus on sustainability makes this grant opportunity particularly valuable for Pembrokeshire's sporting community. With Green Warmth's local expertise and the generous funding available, clubs have an unprecedented chance to secure their financial future whilst contributing to Wales' environmental goals.
Sports clubs interested in exploring their options should contact Green Warmth immediately to discuss their eligibility and begin the application process.
