The Connect: Pembrokeshire Sport featured game on Saturday (Jun 7) came from Treleet when Pembroke II posted 206-5 after captain Will Davidson-Randell elected bat on winning the toss, his side emerging victorious as Narberth II were restricted to 70-9 in reply, the 136 run success cementing their place in the top two of the Division 4 table behind unbeaten league leaders Saundersfoot II.
The ground at Treleet, which is the host ground for the Alec Colley Cup final between club second XIs looked picturesque thanks to the dedicated work of groundsman Jonathan Davies and his support team, the hosts opening partnership between Paul White (64;8x4) and Luke Butler (61;8x4) accruing 135 before Narberth skipper Ceri Davies left arm spinners with the Wilfred Howell sponsored match ball accounted for the later when he was bowled in the twenty third over. Two balls later Andrew Hay was dismissed the same way.
Davies picked up his third wicket in a 3-34 return when White fell LBW and Davies pouched a catch to see Andrew Price duck out on 157-4 to give Elliot Evans the first of his wickets in a 2-48 analysis.
Bowyn Clark (33;4x4) and Steve Durston (15no; 2x4) rebuilt the momentum before the same combination accounted for Clark on 197-5, James Tomlinson unbeaten on 6(1x4) when a sumptuous tea prepared by Leanne Paxton was devoured as the innings closed after 35 overs.
Veteran Richard Howell conceded 11 runs in his allotted overs (3 maidens) and there was a wicketkeeping debut for 12 year old Charlie Jeffries, the West Wales representative player highly though of by the coaching team at Narberth, sponsored by Andrew Rees Butchers.
Their reply began cautiously with Ollie Johns and Tim Webb, teenager Johns the first to depart on 18-1 when he was caught and bowled by opening bowler Jay Sutherland (1-10) in the tenth over. Webb was caught by White from the bowling of veteran Rob Smythe (1-7) having stroke 22 of the opening 25 runs, with three boundaries, Price (2-7) bowling Jordan Jones and another Narberth teenage prodigy Reyn Brenchley to leave the scoreboard showing 29-4 after nineteen overs.
Evans top scored with 25 (2x4) with a watchful inning as wickets fell at the other end with regularity, teenagers Arthur Belt, Alfie Elmer and Jeffries gaining valuable experience in the middle as the wily Rob Hearne took full advantage of the match ball sponsored by his skipper Davidson-Randell to leave the visitors 52-7. Davies was unable to trouble Adrain Elmer in the scorebox when he offered a catch to Sutherland for Durston to claim 1-17, and Evans became the last wicket of Hearnes 4-18, Howell unbeaten on 4 and Mike Reekie 2 when time was called in the JOP sponsored encounter.
