Skipper Stefan Jenkins set his stall early as his he won the toss and his Cresselly side who play in division 2 took first use of the Richard Arthur runway, posting 207-6 from their innings against division 5 opponents Herbrandston in the Alec Colley Cup first round on Tuesday (Jun 10).

Jenkins opened the innings and struck nine boundaries in a 33 ball 51 before he was superbly caught and bowled in the tenth over by the inform teenage quickie, Dillon Lewis (1-37) for 51 of the 91 posted for the first wicket partnership alongside another experienced batsman for the Doves, Phil Williams, who was 27 not out.

Rhys Power had Lewis Mason (1) caught by Wales disability international wicketkeeper, Callum Power the following over Power and two balls later with the scoreboard on 101-3 Griff Jenkins was bowled by having struck his first delivery for six in front of umpires Trefor Evans and Chris Stapleton. Williams was joined by another of venerable age in Ryan Lewis, the pair adding 77 for the fourth wicket before Lewis was stumped by Johnny Lewis, who had taken the glover from Power off Aaron Bowles for 31, which included a brace of sixes and fours from 20 balls. Having anchored the innings Williams was dismissed by veteran Mark Hicks (1-45) via the hands of Dillon Lewis, his 74 including three maximums and six boundaries from 54 balls.

Youngster Iori Thomas at the time was unbeaten on 10 and he was the final wicket to fall for 21 (11 balls;1x6;2x4) on 206-5, Bowles claiming 2-29 with Rhys Power holding the catch ahead of the innings closing with unbeaten teenage batsmen Tyler James and George Davies taking the score to 207-6.

The Herbie reply started positively as wicketkeeper Power (3) and Bowles (19;1x6;3x4) added 19 before Power was caught by Thomas from the bowling of seamer Mason (1-31), Bowles departing six runs later as Mason he snaffled a catch off his new ball partner Griff Jenkins (1-27), Jenkins then running out Johnny Lewis (5) to leave the scoreboard showing 34-3 at the end of the sixth over.

Bowles and Tom Phillpot took control of the run chase, albeit in a lost cause, adding 125 for the fourth wicket before Power fell with three balls of the innings remaining, veteran Williams catching him for a 40 ball 58 (4x6;4x4), Phillpott unbeaten on the same score of 58 having struck a brace of sixes and seven boundaries in his 47 ball innings, talented teenager Callum Britton unbeaten on 1 when the game ended on 57-4 with the Doves progressing to meet division 6 side Lamphey in round 2 next week, after they beat Kilgetty on Wednesday (Jun 11).

The Stags were invited to bat when visiting captain Dylan Phillips won the toss, alongside the new cherry but it was his new ball partner Mark Davies (2-19) who made early inroads, bowling wicketkeeper Morgan Price-Richards without scoring and skipper Tom Colley (4). Darryl Willington opened the innings and retired not out on 15 (2x4), Warren Proce-Richards adding 10 in two scoring shots before he was caught behind by Dylan Duffy off the bowling of Phillips (1-33). This allowed Jonathan Edwards (36no; 6x4) and Huw Bendall (27; 4x4) to build what turned out to be a match winning partnership, Richard Webb bowling Bendall, the Sylvan Ferran for a duck in his 2-19 return, Grant Cole hitting a brace of sixes and fours in his quick fire 24, the last man out as he was caught by Webb of Cody Glanville (1-23). Lamphey set a challenging 140—6 when umpires Neil Thomas and Rob Bellerby called time, 21 extras conceded by the Kingsmore men, including a dozen wides.

Webb fell in the first over for a duck when he was bowled by Cole, who also sent Duffy back the same way the very next ball, Webb the third of Coles match defining 3-10, when he lost his bails for a boundaryless 7.
Jamie Bessant stood tall for a brief period with 16 (2x4), the only player in double digits apart from late order batsman Matt Davies with an unbeaten 10 (2x4). Sylas Ferran also took the new ball for the home side with Cole, and returned 3-21, including the wicket of Bessant, caught by Morgan Price-Richards whilst Colley’s hands held firm to dismiss Mark Davies(5) and Ferran took a caught and bowled to dismiss Chris Frearson for a duck.

Warren Price-Richards replaced Ferran and returned 4-10, Callum O’Brien catching Mike Smith (2) in his second over which also yielded the wickets of Cody Glanville and Theo Scourfield, both bowled for ducks, before the coupe de-grace when last man Tom Harris was bowled for 2 and the innings closed on 51 all out in the sixteenth over.
