Hook 1XI (261-8) earned their fifth consecutive league victory in Division Two by stomping Cresselly 2XI (48ao). Despite the end result, the game kicked off well for Cresselly who after losing the toss and being put in to bowl, managed to dismiss both of Hook’s openers in the first 5 overs. Corey Lewis (2-13) struck on both occasions, clearing out both Ifan Williams (0) and Rhys Phelps (2) for only two runs. After their early stumble, Hook managed to wrestle the game into their favor as batsmen three through six – Aled Phelps (41;1x6;6x4), Owen Phelps (34;5x4), Lewis Miller (56;1x6;9x4) and Jacob Lay (72;4x6;8x4) – all put up good totals. Hook finished the innings eight down, with what would have felt like an assuring total on the board. Other than Lewis, Griff Jenkins (2-20) walked away with Cresselly’s best bowling figures. After tea was when the difference between the sides on the day made itself apparent. Cresselly fell in 14.2 overs, only totaling 48, losing in the end by 213 runs. Brennan Martin (5-19) and Lewis Miller (3-15) did most of the damage, the former taking an economical fifer. Opener Iori Thomas (19;3x4) and keeper Milo Jones (10;2x4no) were the only two Cresselly players who managed to reach double figures. A tough day to reflect on for sixth place Cresselly, whilst Hook continues to build momentum in the Second Division.
St Ishmaels 1XI (208-7) maintain their top of the table spot after a 64 run win against Carew 2XI (144ao). St Ishmaels won the toss, electing to bat. Peter Bradshaw (14;3x4) opened alongside Phillip Llewellyn (113;2x6;14x4no) who no doubt earned himself the appreciation of his teammates after seeing out the entire innings with a century. George Waters (2-31), Joel Read (2-28) and Ethan Hall (2-29) all took two wickets apiece for Carew, managing to prevent St Ishmaels’ other batsmen from thriving in the way that Llewellyn did. After the break Carew set out on their chase of the total. Despite nearly batting the full innings (39 overs), they fell short in the end by a convincing margin. Corey Hall (47;1x6;4x4) and George Waters (37;5x4) had Carew’s most impressive totals, both of whom were dismissed by Huw Scriven behind the stumps. Brennan Devonald (3-19) was the pick of the bowlers again for St Ishmaels, joined in his efforts by Steven Williams (2-15), Jonathan Pawlett (2-18) and Andrew Williams (2-10). St Ishmaels find themselves seven points clear of second place Narberth, whilst Carew remain on the cusp of the relegation zone down at eighth.
Johnston 1XI (186ao) lost to Llanrhian 1XI (190-8) in a closely contested game. Johnston won the toss and decided to bat, with Lewis Boswell (82) and Lee Summons (30) putting up the most impressive totals. Dom Harty (5-19) and Llion Williams (3-41) did the majority of the damage for Llanrhian, creating a platform for their batsmen to attack Johnston’s total. Jack Jones (51) scored the highest total for Llanrhian, trailed by Dom Harty (44) who secured a massive all-round performance for his side. Johnston bowlers Gary James (2-35) and Keegan Codd (2-37) put on the best display on Johnston’s side, though their side was unable to uproot enough of Llanrhian’s batsmen to prevent them passing the total. Llanrhian remain ninth despite their win, with Johnston losing ground on their mid table counterparts Cresselly and Llechryd.
Pembroke 1XI (268-4) beat Llechryd 1XI (164-3) in a convincing 104 run win. After winning the toss, Pembroke opted to bat, proved as an effective choice by their eventual total. Ceri Brace (96;13x4), Paul White (63;7x4) and Jack Harries (61;2x6;8x4no) all scored impressive totals, with Jack Harries reaching 61 in only 32 balls. Andrew Fletcher (2-34) was the most effective of Llechryd’s bowlers, being the only player on either side to take more than one wicket. Despite strong efforts from Adam Maehrlein (61;2x6;6x4) and Joe Mansfield (43;3x4), Llechryd failed to score as fast as Pembroke, finishing 104 runs away despite losing less wickets. Opener Jack Harries (1-23) had Pembroke’s best figures with the ball, with Ceri Brace (1-38) and Sam Davies (1-38) taking the other two wickets. Following the result, Pembroke drop beneath Narberth into third, whilst Llechryd sit fifth.
Burton 2XI conceded against Narberth 1XI, both maintaining Narberth’s title challenge and Burton’s relegation struggle.
