St Ishmaels progressed into the fourth round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup when they beat visitors Ynystawe Athletic 2-0 at the Bridge Meadow on Saturday (Dec 13), writes Jonathan Twigg.

The innovation shown by the Dale Peninsula side to switch the game to the 4G surface at Haverfordwest County with a 5pm kick off saw a number of spectators attending and the Mice were good value for their progression as Ethan Davies and substitute Ieuan Hawkins netted the goals.

Owen Thomas was outstanding at the other end, keeping the visitors efforts out with a commanding performance where he dominated his 18 yard box with aplomb. Skipper Brennan Devonald used all his experience to marshal the line in front of Thomas, alongside Sol Goodhall, Fin Armstrong and Tom Williams, Adam Kingsbeer and Nathan Thomas the key fulcrums in central midfield which allowed Tyler Shiels and Joel Miles to exploit space, Hawkins proving a useful replacement for key frontman Aaron Hallam who left the arena midway through the first half.

Referee Dai Badger was kept busy as neither side shirked the occasion, the whistler handing out cards to Tish duo, goalscorer Davies and Sheils, visiting manager Ashley Watkins seeing red after earlier picking up a yellow card, one of five for his West Wales Premier side.
