It had been an absolutely perfect season for the Otters who’ve flown the flag for Pembrokeshire Rugby with pride this year. They are unbeaten in the league and sit top of the Championship in poll position to lift the trophy. Saturday saw an opportunity to progress to the final of the Championship Cup, when they faced Ystrad Rhondda in the semi final.

The game was hosted at a neutral venue with it being a semi final and Dunvant was the chosen ground. Ystrad Rhondda came out of the blocks absolutely flying and were 21 points ahead of the Otters before the interval.

The Pembrokeshire side showed incredible character though to fight back and really made for a nail biting climax to the match up. Tries from Phillips, Powell and Gibby meant it was all square. A proper semi final, with two excellent teams playing in the right spirit. It was the men from the valleys who scored next however an unconverted try. It meant they had something to defend and with the clock on their side and Narberth running out of time the Valley based team used every tactic to manage the final minutes well and were rewarded with a final place which will be held in the Principality Stadium.

This really would have been the icing on the cake for the Otters who have been absolutely outstanding all season. Their attentions now will return to the league and making sure they lift the trophy and remain unbeaten.
