Neyland the team to beat and a interesting time ahead for Llangwm CC

We continue our preview for the 2024 cricket season and this week the champions are in the spotlight as well as Llangwm and St Ishmaels. Last season saw Neyland dominate Pembrokeshire Cricket as they won the first division title as well as the Harrison Allen Bowl and the DR Morris Cup and skipper Sean Hannon will be aiming to do exactly the same again this year. The treble was an outstanding achievement for the club and much deserved.

St Ishmaels and Llangwm both have plenty of quality in their ranks, however both have lost a key player over the winter. The first division promises to be very competitive with two big clubs being promoted back into the league in Haverfordwest and Whitland.  No one can afford to be under par and get away with it and both of these clubs will be well aware of this.

Neyland

Captain - Sean Hannon

Last Season League - Champions

Last Season Harrison Allen - Champions

Prediction - Without doubt the favourites for the league and both cups, which is high praise for the quality they have in their ranks and the ethos within the club. To go back to back in one competition is a tough ask, to defend all three titles would be remarkable, however never say never when it comes to this team. The team to beat in a nutshell.

St Ishmaels

Captain - Johny Pawlett

Last Season League - 7th place

Last Season Harrison Allen - 2nd Round

Prediction - Tish or the 'Mice' finished in seventh place last season and comfortably clear of the drop zone in the end but not entirely comfortable all season. Their exit in just the second round of the Harrison Allen to Whitland will have been disappointing for them with some dangerous cup cricketers in their ranks. A mixture of experience and youth with plenty of quality should see Tish as mid table in the top division with a good chance to make some waves in the cup competitions. They have lost all rounder Chris Fitzpatrick from last season who has re joined Johnston as their captain, Tish will miss Fitzy and be disappointed to have lost him.

Llangwm

Captain - David Lewis

Last Season League - 8th

Last Season Harrison Allen - Quarter Finals

Prediction - Llangwm were an enigma last season a team with so much individual quality and the ability to beat anyone on their day ended up just avoiding the drop. Joseph Kiff has left Pill Parks to join Burton which is a huge loss for Llangwm. David Lewis will now captain the club and has a huge task on his hands to transform potential into points. A huge threat in cup competitions they will remain and a good run in the cups normally leads to good league form for Llangwm. An interesting season ahead at Pill Parks is just around the corner.
