Merlins Bridge advanced to the next round of the West Wales Cup with a dramatic sudden death penalty shoot-out victory over Carmarthenshire side Llangennech.

Subsitute Josh Silk scored the winning penalty in ice cool style to send the Wizards through after a thrilling 5-5 draw from 120 minutes of football.

The fixture had been reversed after poor weather led to the match being postponed twice.

The visitors got off to a dream start when Ryan Roberts put them ahead in the 8th minute.

Merlins Bridge equalised in the 37th minute through a deflected Leon Davies free-kick, with the midfielder returning to action after recent illness.

Llangenech restored their lead through Alex Davies before James Taube added another soon after to give the away team a comfortable 3-1 lead at half-time.

Will Evans pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot to give the home side some hope.

Substitute Tom Mezzetta scored an equaliser in the 70th minute.

Llangennech were then reduced to ten men with David Lewis receiving a red card.

Another substitute, Danny Pearce, then put the Wizards in front, only for Llangenech to grab a late equaliser through Ryan Roberts.

In extra-time, the visitors took the lead after a Liam James long throw into the box was flicked on into the far post top corner.

Not to be defeated, two Merlins Bridge club icons combined to seal a dramatic late equaliser with Matthew D'Ivry scoring with a clinical finish from a tight angle after being set up by Lee Hudgell.

With nothing separating the two sides after extra time, a penalty shoot-out saw both teams score four out of their first five penalties, before Josh Silk sealed the victory in sudden death to send the Wizards fans wild.
