Current Senior Cup champions Clarbeston Road got off to a winning start in their trophy defence with a 5-2 away win over Neyland.

With Neyland undefeated in seven games as they look to gain promotion back to Division One, Clarby would have been well aware of the threat posed by a talented young team, who they defeated 5-4 in a nine goal thriller when the two sides met last.

Neyland's hopes of a cup upset took a quick early blow, with Laurie Haworth continuing his fine form in front of the net with a goal in the first minute, thanks to an assist from Jake Booth.

The Nomads hit back through Mike Chandler in the 9th minute, but Ben "Rocky" John quickly restored the lead for the visitors with a goal in the 15th minute.

Clarby then showed their quality with a flurry of goals late in the half with Matthew Davies, Laurie Haworth and Ben John adding to the scoreline to give their side a 5-1 lead at the half-time interval.

The second period saw the Clarby attacking onslaught halted, with the experienced Simon Ellis setting up youngster Ben Gale for a goal in the 74th minute to reduce the deficit, with the game finishing 5-2 to the current cup holders.
